What If We Love the Beautiful and the Mess?

A few weeks ago, after working with a client, I was reflecting on the messiness of being human. The piece below came forth. Yesterday, I was agitated about the messiness of my own life and thought it might be good to share this piece!

What If We Love the Beautiful and the Mess?

So, I’m not getting my work done as fast as I’d like . . . Do I really want to overlook the pure joy in this “annoyance?”

All of It

Without perfection,
there’s presence.

Without criticism,
expression.

Without procrastination,
progress.

Attempting perfection
brings completion.

Hearing criticism,
compassion.

Procrastinating,
a bit of movement.

Breathing in,
Breathing out,
completing the circle
of being alive.

As always, I’d love your thoughts and comments below.

  1. Jennifer, CAT-us interrupt-us. I GET it! Indeed. Jasmine and I thank you for the hugs and send hugs right back to you and the girls!

  2. Perfect!

    Thank you.

I find that my catus-interuptus’s are the perfect moment to take a deep breath and refresh my spirit.
    Then, back to work!

Hugs to you and your sweet kitty!

  3. What a difference a day makes. When I wrote this post early yesterday, I was concerned about the messiness of my own life. Today I am so aware of the messiness of this country I love and of being human.

  4. Beth,

It’s so great to hear from you. I know your heart is broken today.

When I wrote the piece, I found it oddly comforting in general. I wrote it a few weeks ago and the election wasn’t on my mind.

This morning, when I realized this is what I had published on this particular day, I was oddly comforted again.

Right now, at least half our country is grieving. Maybe most of us are in shock.

This piece seems to remind me of how complex and messy it is being human. And to love ourselves anyway. And to find the light, no matter what.
