Spiritual Awakening: Blossoming

“Unless a tree has borne blossoms in spring, you will vainly look for fruit on it in autumn.”
– Walter Scott

What in you longs to blossom now?  Even though many of us choose to set goals and make resolutions in January, that timing contradicts nature – both human nature and mother nature . . .

As Nature herself knows, attempting new growth in the dead of winter makes for a very short life span!  Perhaps explaining the reality of so many new year’s resolutions never taking hold?!

Trees and flowers know better to wait for warmth to blossom.  And so we as human have this same blossoming opportunity now – when the air is cool and the sun is warm and we feel hope deep inside our limbs!

So, regardless of what did or didn’t happen with your new year’s resolutions, what longs to blossom in you now?  Can you sense more vibrant health inside you?  Do you know greater abundance in your business?  Are you feeling excited about new love blossoming?  Is a new project waiting to blossom?  New collaborations? Deeper friendships?  New fun and adventure?  Spiritual awakening?  Travel to new places?

Let’s use this wonderful, fresh, spring energy to give voice and commitment to what longs to blossom from deep within us . . . looking forward to a wonderful autumn harvest because we’re taking the time now to tend the inspiration of new growth . . .

Clear Intention: A Fresh New Day

Happy Spring!

What a delightful time to see ourselves anew.  I am choosing to use this fresh, spring energy to release another layer of self-doubt and self-defeating habits and see myself through new eyes.

I am also practicing extending these new eyes to others.  By consciously choosing the renewal that spring offers, I am – once again – letting go of old judgments and beginning anew.  And, being human, I can sometimes “forget.”  When I notice myself judging or focusing on the less empowered aspects of myself or someone else, I simply use that noticing as my opportunity to call myself back to a fresh, new moment and a fresh, new choice!

As we see ourselves and others in brighter, more empowering light, we actively choose to live and love more from a God-consciousness, rather than from our own limited human consciousness.

Lovely . . .

What does spring elicit from you?

Spiritual Awareness: The Power of Our Words

I hired a new business coach in January, Stephen McGhee, because
I was beyond ready to make some major changes in my business and my life.  And, I had gotten willing to do whatever it took to bring my life more into alignment with what I most deeply desired.  I knew he was the guy to help me make that happen, and I have been thrilled to be bringing great things to fruition just a couple of months into our work together.

In fact, for a few days, I had been saying to anyone who would listen, “I am on fire!  Things are going so great.”  I am no longer saying that after waking up one morning with my throat ablaze.  On fire, really.  Oops!

Then I completely lost my voice for a couple of days.  Gave me some inner reflection time, which is when I made the connection between my fiery enthusiasm and my blazing throat.  I also realized that I needed some time to integrate so many good things happening all at once!

My beautiful dance of life continues to amaze me when I’m willing to take full responsibility for creating everything in my life.  I’d like to think that the next time I need a little integration time, I will plan a few quiet days in the New Mexico desert . . .  It probably won’t make as good a story, but it also won’t be quite as painful or debilitating!

Isn’t life cool?!? (Notice my balancing words!)

So what about you?  What have you been creating in your life with the power of your words?

Our “stories” continue to fascinate me . . .

Beyond Self-Consciousness: Attracting Clients

About a month ago, I wrote two issues of Sacred Space Notebook about attracting clients by having high-value conversations with more potential clients.  That must have put something powerful in motion inside me.  Since then I have gone to a deeper level with clients, potential clients, colleagues, family and even strangers who might receive value from spontaneous coaching!

And I am fascinated to notice that simultaneously I am taking my “job” as an agent of transformation more seriously and I am holding it more lightly – having tons of fun with each of these precious connections.  From a tough money conversation with a client to a strategy session with my niece about initiating conversation with a guy she’d like to know better to putting accountability in place with the cable guy to take the next step in making his dream of opening a restaurant a reality . . .  Everyone has goals, dreams, desires.  And, how great is it to have a job that helps people take the action to create the life and work that is uniquely, beautifully theirs?!

I’m not sure why I had been stingy with these rich initial conversations in the past.  Maybe it didn’t feel “appropriate” to talk to the cable guy about his dream.  Or maybe I felt concerned about pushing a client too hard.  Or maybe I didn’t want to come on too strong with a potential client.  What all of those “excuses” have in common: me feeling self-conscious about me.

I’ve noticed that I’ve become more willing to put my focus on the other person, allowing myself to be less focused on my image. And, I can tell you that is working for me!  My life and work feel more gratifying, more playful, more fulfilling, more exciting, more meaningful.  Each morning, I’m curious as to what gifts I might be able to give and to whom.

The fabulous by-product: more people hiring me.

And, it seems to be working out quite nicely for the others: clients, potential clients, colleagues, family and strangers, alike!  I’m sure there will probably come a time when I offer coaching to someone in one of these conversations and they won’t want it or they’ll feel offended by what I say.  That’s a risk I am becoming more willing to take because the price for not taking it has become way too high!

So what about you?  How can you put yourself out there more: serving more, offering more of the best of you?

Transformation: Melt Resistance with Clarity

Last week I shared about the concept of resisting nothing to reduce our suffering.  Since resistance is something that comes up regularly for all of us who are growing, I’ve been studying it from several angles recently.

I guess I’ve created my own self-study Masters program for transformation and coaching.  As I have more ways to smooth the way for my own change, then I also have new tested tools to share with my coaching clients!

One of my “required reading” books, “Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard” by Chip and Dan Heath, asserts, “What looks like resistance is often a lack of clarity.”  They use a beautiful example about eating a healthier diet.  We may resist “eating healthier” because we have no idea where to begin.  They then cite a research study in which the two researchers decided to start with milk because whole milk is the single biggest source of saturated fat in the typical American diet.

They launched an ad campaign in two towns in West Virginia letting people know that one glass of whole milk has the same fat content as five strips of bacon.  Who knew?  They then asked people to switch to low-fat milk.  Crystal clear: eat healthier by switching from whole milk to low-fat milk.  Before the campaign, the market share of low-fat milk: 18%.  After: 41%.  Six months later: still 35%!  Amazing . . .

My current resistance/clarity challenge: I’ve been resisting reaching out for help because I don’t want to “bother people.”  In working with my own coach, we brought in some clarity:  I now reach out every single day to at least three people, asking for something specific in which I would like help.

Occasionally, I don’t hear back from someone right away.  And the rest of the time (80 or 90%), I am getting so much darn help – and having a great time with it!  Not one person has yet told me that I’m bothering them!

So what about you?  What are you currently resisting?  I would love to help you melt that resistance with some crystal-clear clarity!
